Burgundy & Gold (Outfit Post)

I've always liked the combination of burgundy & gold, especially when accented with black and/or white.

I remember seeing Nicole of Gary Pepper Vintage wearing an amazing burgundy pleated skirt in one of her posts, and when I was last in Sydney, pleated skirts were popping up everywhere in the store windows including Dotti and Valleygirl. Sadly, they looked kind of wrong on me.

While on my visit to AdelaideI was very happy to discover a similar, non-pleated skirt in Supre. It also came in black, bone and a tan colour. I really liked the tan and if it's still there next time I get to Sydney I think I'll buy it as well. In the last couple of years I've thought Supre clothes are quite expensive for what they are, but as I wear long skirts all the time in Dubai this purchase would be worth it.

Today I wore it for the first time in Dubai, this test run was to the mall for a nice dinner on my own.

This shows what I like to call my 'Lord of the Rings Tree' necklace. I can't recall where I bought this but I know it was $5 or less. I LOOOOVE this necklace & have been wearing it to death lately.

These are also the first pictures of my new hair colour. The lighting is not that great but it's quite red now. Last time I got it coloured it was more a darker, red-brown than a true red-copper brown.

To Keep or Not to Keep...

...that is the question. I got these wedge shoes on ebay and I ADORE them... except they are about a quarter of a size too small. Now, the dilemma is, do I keep them for sit-down outings (walk to car, walk from car to dinner, walk back to car-type things) or pass them on??

They are so cute but... I really must downsize. Thoughts?

In other news, my new favourite blog of the moment is Domestic Divinity by M, it is really funny but fashion-y and like me she is addicted to nail polish & has to deal with having half a family which hails from Wog-land and all the craziness which that entails!!

While discovering new blogs is fun, I fear all of the awesome sales she has linked to are going to be a bad thing for my Visa balance... the first victim of which I feel may be this Alannah Hill dress...

Grape, Eggplant, Plum...

I love how so many colours have fruit names... or maybe it's the other way round, the colours are named after the fruit! :P

I've been working on taking better photos for my blog and thinking a bit more about the outfits that I put together. I enjoy styling different pieces in my wardrobe and reading all of your blogs gives me ideas and inspiration that I wouldn't otherwise have thought of.

Lately I've been travelling a lot so I took advantage of the nice hotel rooms to take some pics. The decor in this one happened to fit in really well with my purple theme today ;)

I fell in love with the arty floral print on this skirt, and the shape is really pretty & flattering. It came with the belt shown but I think I'll add my own or wear it without, depending on what I pair it up with. I think a grey tank would look really bqasic but nice.

And lastly, as Lady Melbourne often says, you should never pay retail for anything! I've been a longtime bargain hunter, always looking in the discount bins & racks, and finding things that might be a little flawed but repairable. Recently I saw these shoes on sale for a measly $9.95. I'd been coveting some jewelled sandals for summer for ages, and these had originally been $89.95. I gave them a careful once-over but couldn't see anything wrong with them aside from some slight trying-on marks. SOLD! :)

Audrey- Style & Class

Picked up this fab t-shirt on a recent work trip. I have a tee with a Marilyn print, but I really love this one more! Looks really cute with black capri pants and flats :)

I use coin purses a lot, both to always have change handy and also because carrying too many coins tends to wreck a wallet really fast. I finally pulled my pink patent Guess wallet out of its box and I didn't want to overstuff it with change. This cute little number was the perfect solution:

And the last little purchase for this post- some cute canvas flats. I have plenty of sandals but wanted something a bit more closed-in for those in-between days. Red is always fun and goes with lots of stuff. Even better, they were only $10!

I've always loved Audrey Hepburn, I think she was so classy & stylish and someone to truly look up to. So you can imagine that I was really excited to read about a soon-to-be released book, How to Be a Hepburn in a Hilton World. These days many girls are becoming frustated with the 'acceptable' behaviour, dress and speech of their counterparts- but aren't too sure of how to go about making themselves into truly classy ladies without going too far the other way. I think this book will be really good and I can't wait to read it. Of course I'll post about it once I've got the book in my hands!

Of Cheap & Cheerful, and Comments...

Or I should say, comment. I got my first comment on this blog, so yay! Thanks for commenting! It's nice to know other people appreciate what you write (andd by extension, that you're not completely irrelevant or crazy)

On a cheap'n'cheerful note, I picked up these little babies on a recent trip to Melbourne. I've always loved this classic colour combo:

Good for days when I need a go-to shoe... and better for less than a twenty!

In other news, I have recently figured out that a) I've become addicted to buying vintage dresses on eBay & Etsy in an alarmingly short time and b) I need to check more thoroughly for cat fur before leaving the house. The 'air hostesses' of the 40's would have fainted at my appearance this morning...
